How to Get to Signagi#
Signagi (Sighnaghi) in Kakheti is easiest reached via Tbilisi. Regular marshrutkas from Tbilisi’s Didube bus station and private transfers are the common onward options.
Tbilisi International (TBS): Tbilisi is the primary international gateway for Signagi (Kakheti). From TBS you can reach Tbilisi city centre by metro/bus/taxi (taxi ~20-30 min, ≈GEL 25-40). From Tbilisi continue to Signagi by marshrutka, bus or private transfer (see below).
Kobuleti/Batumi (seasonal alternative): Batumi is farther away and rarely used to reach Signagi; most visitors use Tbilisi.
Train: There is no direct intercity rail to Signagi; Georgian railways do not serve the Kakheti road to Signagi.
Bus / Marshrutka: Marshrutkas depart Tbilisi’s Didube bus station and other points heading east to Kakheti; the trip to Signagi takes about 1.5-2 hours and fares are typically around GEL 10-15 one-way. Private minibuses and taxis are widely available from Tbilisi for a faster, door-to-door service.
How to Get Around Signagi#
Signagi is compact and walkable; the practical way to arrive is a marshrutka or private transfer from Tbilisi. Renting a car is convenient if you plan to visit multiple vineyards around Kakheti.
- Marshrutka (Didube bus station) (GEL 10-GEL 15) - Marshrutkas to Signagi leave Didube and several city stops; travel time is about 1.5-2 hours on good roads. They’re economical and frequent during daytime but can fill up quickly during weekends and festivals.
- Private taxi/transfer (GEL 70-GEL 150) - A private taxi from Tbilisi to Signagi is pricier but faster and door-to-door (≈1-1.5 hours depending on traffic). Good option if you have luggage or are visiting wineries outside town.
- Car rental (GEL 30-GEL 70/day (rental)) - Renting a car in Tbilisi gives full flexibility to explore Kakheti’s vineyards and nearby sites; roads are generally in good condition and signposted. Parking in Signagi’s historic centre can be limited at peak times.
- Local taxis and tours (GEL 50-GEL 200 (typical tour/taxi day rates)) - Local taxis and organized day tours from Tbilisi are common - convenient for wine tours and guided visits. Tour pricing varies widely depending on inclusions.
- Walking - Signagi’s compact, pedestrian-friendly old town is best explored on foot - cobbled streets and viewpoints are easily reached by walking.
