Sigismund’s Column (Kolumna Zygmunta) is a freestanding monument in Castle Square (Plac Zamkowy) in central Warsaw, erected in 1644 in honour of King Sigismund III Vasa. It is one of Warsaw’s oldest secular monuments and a landmark at the eastern end of the Old Town.
The column features a bronze statue of King Sigismund III atop a tall pedestal and is commonly photographed with the Royal Castle visible behind it. It functions as a prominent urban marker and a focal point for visitors exploring Warsaw’s historic centre.
The original column was raised in 1644 on the initiative of King Władysław IV to honour his father Sigismund III Vasa. The monument was destroyed in 1944 during World War II and subsequently reconstructed and re-erected in the late 1940s and early 1950s using surviving fragments and later casts.
The column stands at the eastern approach to the Old Town and Royal Castle in the heart of Warsaw; the nearest major transport hubs are central Warsaw stations and tram stops serving the Castle Square area.

How to Get to Sigismund's Column #
Sigismund’s Column stands on Castle Square (Plac Zamkowy) in Warsaw’s Old Town next to the Royal Castle. From Warszawa Centralna (Central Station) walk east along Krakowskie Przedmieście for about 15-20 minutes (roughly 1-1.5 km) to the square. The site is also served by many central trams and buses that stop at or near Plac Zamkowy.
