Freetown Peninsula & Western Area (Freetown, Lungi, Cotton Tree)

November is the transition into the dry season and the peninsula clears up quickly; early mornings are drier and the air feels fresher after the rains. Tourist services pick up again and ferry connections to the Banana and Turtle Islands become more reliable, making it a good month for island-hopping. Evening temperatures are comfortable and beach bonfires are popular; mosquitoes decrease but still carry some presence in vegetated pockets.

Coastal Lowlands & Islands (Lumley, Banana Island, Bonthe, Turtle Islands)

November opens the prime coastal season as the long dry spell begins: beaches dry, sea visibility improves, and ferries become more dependable - a good month for island-hopping and turtle-watching. Local lodges re-open fully and boat operators ramp up services; weekends can fill with local visitors. Bring reef shoes and sunscreen, and book transfers in advance for popular islands.

Southern Rainforest & Lowlands (Bo, Bonthe, Tiwai Island, Gbangbatoke)

November is largely dry and pleasantly warm, with the rainforest canopy still carrying the saturated green left from the wet season but trails firming up nicely. Boat travel is reliable and primate- and bird-watching seasons pick up as guides resume full services; lodges in Kenema and Bo return to normal schedules. Bring good walking shoes and insect repellent - mosquitoes are fewer than in the wet months but still present in shaded forest areas.

Eastern Highlands & Kono (Mount Bintumani, Koidu, Gola Hills)

November is largely dry and comfortable in the eastern highlands, with crisp mornings and warm afternoons ideal for summit attempts on Bintumani and birding in the Gola Forest. Local guides resume full-service schedules and transport becomes more reliable, making this a preferred time for multi-day hikes. Bring warm night clothing for camps and arrange itineraries early as this is the start of the tourist window.

Northern Plains & Savanna (Makeni, Port Loko hinterland, Karene)

November is largely dry and comfortable with diminished humidity and cooling Harmattan breezes beginning to blow later in the month; daytime temperatures are warm but bearable. This is a good window for visiting rural markets and cultural sites without the mud of the wet season, and services normalize after rainy-season reductions. Nighttime can become noticeably cooler - pack a light jacket for evenings in open terrain.
