Shete Boka National Park
National Park
A coastal national park protecting rugged inlets and blowholes on Curaçao’s northern shore; visitors walk cliffside trails, watch surf force through caverns and sometimes spot nesting sea turtles.
Shete Boka National Park is a protected coastal area on the north coast of Curaçao established to conserve rugged cliffs, sea-carved inlets (bokas) and blowholes created by strong Atlantic waves. The park preserves a sequence of rocky bays and cliffs where waves crash into narrow inlets and caverns.
Key visitor viewpoints are built above the inlets to allow safe observation of powerful wave action; notable sites include Boka Tabla, Boka Pistol and several smaller bokas that each show different effects of coastal erosion. The park is valued for its geology and dramatic shoreline rather than for swimming.
The national park was created by the island’s authorities to protect this stretch of coastline and to provide controlled public access to its natural features. Walkways and platforms concentrate visitor use and reduce erosion and habitat disturbance.
Shete Boka lies on Curaçao’s north shore near the island’s western third, accessible by road from the island’s main coastal route and visited from nearby coastal settlements.
- Viewing platforms: Multiple paved and stepped viewing platforms provide safe vantage points for watching waves; visitors are advised to keep to marked paths and viewing areas.
- Conservation focus: The park protects a rugged north coast and was created to conserve the distinctive bokas and coastal geology rather than sandy beach recreation.
What to See #
- Boka Tabla: Boka Tabla - a large, wave-swept inlet with a public viewing platform where visitors can watch powerful surf entering the bay.
- Boka Pistol: Boka Pistol - a narrow fissure in the rock where waves are forced through and create dramatic splashes visible from a viewing point.
- Other inlets: Boka Wandomi and other smaller inlets - a series of rocky coves and blowholes that illustrate the park's coastal geology and wave action.
