How to Get to Shendi

Shendi lies on the Nile north of Khartoum and is served by road and occasional regional air links. Khartoum International is the main international gateway; local connections by bus, shared taxi or rail (when operating) connect to Shendi.

By Air

Khartoum International (KRT): Khartoum is Sudan’s main international airport. From Khartoum you can travel to Shendi by road (bus, shared taxi) or by arranging a private transfer; the trip is generally around 3-4 hours by car depending on traffic and stops.

Merowe (Marsa Alam-Merowe) (MWE): Merowe has a regional airport (Merowe Airport) that serves northern Sudan. From Merowe the road transfer to Shendi is typically 1-2 hours by taxi or bus depending on route and connections.

By Train & Bus

Train: Sudan’s rail network includes services linking Khartoum with towns along the Nile; Atbara and Shendi are on historic rail corridors. Passenger services exist intermittently-check the Sudan Railway timetable locally as services can be irregular.
