- Intercity bus / shared taxi (Low to moderate (local currency)) - Road travel is the standard way to reach Shendi from Khartoum, Atbara or Merowe. Shared taxis and buses depart from central stations; they are affordable but timetables can be flexible and vehicles vary in comfort. Carry water and plan for limited facilities on long runs.
- Sudan Railway (where operating) (Budget (local fares)) - Shendi sits on historic Nile rail routes; when passenger services operate they offer a slower but scenic alternative to road travel. Service frequency and reliability vary-confirm schedules locally and expect basic onboard facilities.
