Seoul Forest is a major urban park in the Seongdong District of Seoul, developed as a multi-zone green space and opened in the mid-2000s. It functions as one of the city’s principal parks for recreation, nature education, and cultural events.

The park is organized into themed areas that include art and cultural spaces, wooded ecological sections, hands-on nature study areas, and wetlands close to the Han (Hangang) River. Facilities include walking and cycling paths, small animal enclosures, and seasonal events rather than large historic monuments.

The layout supports families, cyclists, and people seeking both active recreation and quieter nature experiences within the city. The park is integrated with riverside cycle routes and is commonly used for short visits as well as longer outdoor activities.

Created as part of urban redevelopment to convert former industrial land into public green space, the park was established in the 2000s to expand Seoul’s recreational and ecological infrastructure. Continued management focuses on combining cultural programming with habitat and tree planting.

Located in Seongdong District on the eastern side of central Seoul, the park sits alongside the Han River’s northern bank and is served by multiple metro stations and city cycling routes.

• Best time to visit: Most popular in spring and autumn when planting beds and tree-lined paths are at peak color; weekday mornings are typically quieter than weekends.
• Access and circulation: Several large recreational pathways and bike rentals connect the park to nearby riverside trails, making it easy to include in a longer urban ride or walk.

• Culture & Arts Park: A Cultural and Arts zone contains exhibition spaces and event lawns used for outdoor performances and installations.
• Ecological Forest: An Ecological Forest area focuses on tree planting and native-vegetation restoration across wooded sections of the park.
• Nature Study Field: A Nature Experience Field provides hands-on nature education, a children’s play area, and trails for informal learning about local plants and wildlife.
• Wetlands / Waterside Park: A Wetlands and Waterside area includes ponds and riparian planting adjacent to the Han (Hangang) River, supporting birds and aquatic plants.

Take Seoul Metro Line 2 to Seoul Forest Station (exit 3) or Line Bundang to Ttukseom Resort Station and walk 10-15 minutes. Several bus routes serve the park; cycling lanes and pedestrian bridges connect it to the Han River paths.

• Enter via Seoul Forest station (Seoul Subway Line 2, Seongsu Branch) and use the main east gate to avoid the weekend crush at the southern entrance.
• Visit early morning on weekdays for quieter paths and unhurried deer-feeding at the Eco-Park enclosure.
• Don't miss the butterfly conservatory and the small contemporary-art installations scattered through the park - they are easy to overlook.
