How to Get to Selçuk#
Selçuk is best reached via Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport (ADB), with regular regional trains and minibuses linking Izmir and Selçuk. The town’s railway station provides direct access for visitors heading to the Ephesus archaeological site.
Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport (ADB): Izmir ADB is the main airport for Selçuk (about 65-75 km). From ADB you can take a Havaş or Havatas shuttle into Izmir city centre (around 30-40 minutes) and then a regional train (İZBAN/regular regional services) or direct regional train from Izmir Basmane to Selçuk; total travel time is typically 1-1.5 hours. Airport taxi directly to Selçuk is about 1-1.25 hours depending on traffic.
Bodrum-Milas Airport (BXN): Bodrum-Milas is farther (around 150 km) and used mainly by charter flights; from BXN you’ll typically transfer by bus or private shuttle to Selçuk with travel times of 2.5-3.5 hours depending on route and service.
Train: Selçuk is served by regional trains from Izmir (Basmane station) on the İzmir-Aydın line; direct regional trains take about 1-1.5 hours and are a convenient option for tourists visiting Ephesus. Tickets are inexpensive and bought at the station or on the train for regional services.
Bus: Intercity buses (Pamukkale Turizm, Kamil Koç and others) run to nearby Kuşadası and İzmir; from those hubs local minibuses (dolmuş) or buses connect to Selçuk (10-30 minutes). Kuşadası-Selçuk dolmuş rides are frequent and cheap.
How to Get Around Selçuk#
Selçuk is most easily reached by regional train from Izmir (ADB) or by bus/dolmuş from Kuşadası. Once there, walking, bicycles and short dolmuş rides are the best ways to get around locally.
- Regional train (İZBAN / regional) (TRY 15-40 (approx.)) - Trains from İzmir Basmane to Selçuk are the most reliable option to reach the town and Ephesus area. Journey time is about 1-1.5 hours; trains are inexpensive and frequent on weekdays. Buy tickets at the station; keep an eye on timetables for fewer services in the late evening.
- Dolmuş / local minibus (TRY 5-20 (approx.)) - Dolmuş minibuses connect Selçuk with nearby towns (Kuşadası, İzmir suburbs) and popular beaches; they run frequently and are cheap. Useful for short hops and for getting from bus stations to the archaeological sites. Cash fares are low and paid on boarding.
- Intercity bus (TRY 30-120 (approx.)) - Long‑distance buses serve Izmir and Kuşadası; from those hubs catch a dolmuş or local bus to Selçuk. Buses are comfortable and a common choice from other Turkish cities; travel times depend on origin but are well‑served. Buy tickets at terminals or online in advance during high season.
- Taxi / Private transfer (TRY 300-800 (approx.)) - Taxis are convenient for direct transfers from the airport or Kuşadası especially if travelling with luggage or in a group. Agree a fare or use an app before departure; transfer from ADB takes about 1-1.25 hours. Private transfers can be booked through hotels and agencies for a fixed price.
- Bike / Scooter (TRY 50-150/day (approx.)) - Selçuk and nearby archaeological sites are compact and can be explored by rented bicycle or scooter in good weather. Rentals are inexpensive and give flexibility to reach sites outside the immediate centre; wear a helmet and follow local traffic rules.
- Walking - The centre of Selçuk (and the Ephesus visitor areas nearby) is very walkable; walking is the best way to see the town, local markets and short archaeological trails. Comfortable shoes are recommended for uneven paths at ruins.
