Red Sea Coast (Jeddah, Yanbu, Al Lith, coastal Tabuk)
A slow easing of heat can be felt in September as daytime temperatures drop a few degrees but humidity remains noticeable; sea temperatures are at their warmest, good for swimming and late-season snorkeling. Occasional tropical remnants from the Arabian Sea can reach the far south of the coast (near Jazan) but rarely touch northern Red Sea ports. Evenings start to feel more comfortable for long walks on the corniche.
Western Highlands / Hejaz & Sarawat Mountains (Taif, Abha, Al-Bahah, Jabal Sawda)
October delivers clearer skies and stable days: excellent conditions for mountain drives and visiting heritage villages around Al-Bahah. Cooler nights return, and festival-season crowds have mostly dispersed, giving quieter access to viewpoints. Bring a light jacket for dawn and dusk, and expect increasingly dry trails as rainfall wanes.
Central Plateau / Najd (Riyadh, Buraydah, Al Kharj)
October offers much more comfortable daytime temperatures and pleasant evenings on the Najd plateau - an excellent month for city sightseeing and desert excursions. Dust activity reduces, making desert camping and dune trips more pleasant. A light jacket for night is useful, especially if you plan early-morning photography of the desert landscapes.
Eastern Province & Arabian Gulf Coast (Dammam, Khobar, Al-Ahsa, Jubail)
November is one of the best months for the Eastern Province with mild, sunny days and cool nights; it’s ideal for exploring Al-Ahsa’s springs and historic wells. Fog is less persistent and water activities resume in more pleasant conditions. A light jacket together with breathable clothing is perfect for daytime exploration and evening strolls.
Southern Highlands & Far Southwest (Jazan, Najran, parts of Asir lowlands)
November cools gently and the smell of wood fires appears in higher villages as nights become brisk; daytime temperatures are excellent for long hikes and cultural touring. Najran and its surrounding countryside become quiet and comfortable for photography and visiting remote forts. Pack a sweater for evenings, particularly at altitude.
Rub’ al Khali / Southeastern Sands (Empty Quarter, Al-Ahsa periphery, Salalah-adjacent influences)
November cools into agreeable desert weather: daytime warmth, long soft light and cool nights are perfect for photography and dune hiking. Roads into the Empty Quarter are more forgiving, and festivals or organized desert experiences happen more often. A warm layer for night and sun protection for days will cover most needs.
