Red Sea Coast (Jeddah, Yanbu, Al Lith, coastal Tabuk)
A damp, salty breeze lingers through February and keeps temperatures comfortable for strolling Old Jeddah and visiting Yanbu’s dive sites. Occasional winter squalls can kick up short, sharp rainbands; these cause brief road spray and slightly choppy seas but rarely disrupt ferries. Nights remain mild - pack a thin sweater for dinner on the corniche.
Western Highlands / Hejaz & Sarawat Mountains (Taif, Abha, Al-Bahah, Jabal Sawda)
February brings cool, often bright days to the Sarawat range; sunshine is stronger at altitude so afternoon temperatures are agreeable while nights stay chilly. Taif’s rose farms may be dormant but the scenery is green compared with the lowlands, and hotels are quieter before spring. If you plan to hike, early starts avoid afternoon cloud buildups that can reduce visibility.
Central Plateau / Najd (Riyadh, Buraydah, Al Kharj)
February continues with crisp, dry conditions and incremental warming, making it an excellent month for exploring Riyadh’s historic quarter and caravan-city remains. Late-month gusts from northwesterly winds can whip up dust and make outdoor events gritty - sunglasses and a face scarf come in handy. Evenings still require a jacket for comfort.
Eastern Province & Arabian Gulf Coast (Dammam, Khobar, Al-Ahsa, Jubail)
February stays mild and humid; Dammam sees clear, sunny afternoons ideal for waterfront strolling while mornings can be murky with sea fog. Gusty shamal winds can sweep across the coast, stirring up coarse sand along exposed beaches, so sunglasses and a buff are handy. The cooler, pleasant days are popular with Saudis visiting the Corniche and coastal parks.
Southern Highlands & Far Southwest (Jazan, Najran, parts of Asir lowlands)
February stays warm in Jazan with bright, dry days well-suited to island-hopping off Farasan and exploring coastal markets. Najran’s nights can be chilly but daytime exploration of its mud-brick architecture is comfortable. Keep sunscreen and a hat handy, and expect fewer crowds than on the Red Sea’s busier northern beaches.
Rub’ al Khali / Southeastern Sands (Empty Quarter, Al-Ahsa periphery, Salalah-adjacent influences)
February maintains pleasant desert days and cold nights; the light is excellent for dune photography and the silence of the sands is striking. Occasional strong northerly gusts can pick up sand so pack goggles and a face covering. Access roads may be soft in places - a 4x4 and an experienced guide are highly recommended.
