High / low are average daily temperatures (°C). “Feels” reflects how hot or cold it feels, allowing for humidity.
Northern São Tomé (São Tomé city and northern coast)
July is often the sunniest month in the north; daily humidity is lower and mornings feel fresh compared with the heavy wet-season months. This is a strong time for diving and snorkeling off the northern coast because sea conditions settle and local operators run more trips. Ferry crossings to Príncipe or the islets become more reliable, but always check for single-day cancellations after an unusual swell. Bring reef shoes and sun protection; daytime heat is pleasant but the sun is strong.
Central Highlands and Obô (Pico de São Tomé, Pico Cão Grande, forest interior)
July’s crisp mornings are a welcome change for anyone who’s endured the wet season; the forest feels fresher and the trail conditions are at some of their best for walking. Birding is good as species that were quieter in the rains become more active, and visibility from viewpoints improves considerably. Summit attempts on Pico de São Tomé are more realistic, though a local guide is still advisable for route-finding. Pack layered clothing-sunny afternoons can turn into cool evenings quickly.
Southern São Tomé (southern coast, Ilhéu das Rolas and nearby islets)
July’s consistent trade breezes bring sun and calmer seas that make the southern islands easier to reach and explore by boat. Snorkel trips and coastal walks are enjoyable, with lower mosquito pressure in the evenings. Coastal tracks firm up and roça visits are more straightforward without muddy sections, so inland cultural tours combine well with beach days. Even so, pack sunscreen and a light windbreaker for breezy afternoons.
Príncipe Island (Santo António, Sundy, Obo Reserve)
July typically offers some of Príncipe’s most dependable weather for outdoor activities: reduced rainfall, clearer seas and comfortable daytime temperatures. This is an excellent month for visiting Pico do Príncipe, scheduled boat trips, sea safaris and longer guided hikes in the reserve. Wildlife viewing is strong as many species are more active on clearer days, and lodge-based programs run at full capacity. Bring sun protection for exposed coastal walks and a light jacket for dawn birding.
