Sándor Palace occupies a corner of Buda Castle Square as the official residence of Hungary’s prime minister. Sightseers come for its 19th-century façade and its place within the Castle District circuit.
Sándor Palace (Sándor-palota) is a neoclassical palace on Castle Hill in Budapest’s Buda Castle district, on the approach to the Royal Palace and near Matthias Church.
The building dates to the early 19th century and was constructed for the Sándor family; it was damaged during World War II and underwent extensive restoration in the late 20th and early 21st centuries.
Since restoration it has been used to house the official offices and residence of the President of Hungary and is a focal point for state ceremonies and formal receptions.
The palace stands on the Buda side of Budapest within the historic castle complex, overlooking the Danube and close to Fisherman’s Bastion and other Buda Castle landmarks.

How to Get to Sándor Palace #
Sándor Palace sits on the Buda Castle grounds immediately above the Széchenyi Chain Bridge (Clark Ádám tér). From central Deák Ferenc tér (served by metro lines M1, M2 and M3) walk across the Chain Bridge to Clark Ádám tér, then either walk uphill about 5-10 minutes to the palace or take the Castle Hill funicular (Budavári Sikló) from Clark Ádám tér to the Buda Castle area - the palace is a very short walk from the upper funicular station. By car it is in the central Buda Castle zone (short drive from any central Budapest location).
