San Juan district (Tibás) is part of the Greater San José urban area; the main international gateway is Juan Santamaría (SJO), with frequent bus and taxi connections into Tibás. Local buses are the everyday transport for residents and visitors.
Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO): San José’s main international airport is Juan Santamaría. From SJO you can reach San Juan district in Tibás by taxi or by public bus via San José central-taxi to Tibás takes about 20-40 minutes depending on traffic; official airport taxis and shuttle services are convenient for door‑to‑door transfers.
Tobías Bolaños International Airport (SYQ): Tobías Bolaños is a smaller airport used for domestic flights and general aviation; it’s closer to central San José and can shorten transfers to Tibás by road.
