The chapel of Saint Michel d’Aiguilhe is a Romanesque chapel built in 962 on the summit of a volcanic needle near Le Puy-en-Velay in south-central France. The small stone chapel crowns a steep volcanic plug and is an early medieval foundation closely associated with the pilgrimage traditions of the region.

Visitors climb a narrow external stair of 268 steps to reach the summit, where the compact Romanesque chapel and small terrace occupy the rock top. The site is chiefly visited for the rock-top chapel itself and the panoramic views over Le Puy and the surrounding volcanic landscape.

The chapel was constructed in the 10th century and has undergone repairs and alterations in subsequent centuries; its core dates to the early medieval period. Over time the site remained a local pilgrimage destination and has been maintained as a historical monument.
