Saint Andrew's Church Religious Site

Saint Andrew’s Church is an 18th-century Baroque church in Kyiv, Ukraine, located on Andriyivska Hill above the historic Andriyivskyy Descent. It was designed in the mid-1700s by the architect Bartolomeo Rastrelli.

The church is notable for its richly decorated Baroque exterior and interior and its prominent hilltop position that provides wide views over the Podil neighborhood and the Dnipro River. The compact site includes ornate façades, domes and an elevated setting that make it a visual focal point of central Kyiv.

Commissioned in the mid-18th century and completed in the 1740s-1750s, the church was built under the direction of Rastrelli and became an important religious and architectural landmark in Kyiv. It has undergone restorations over time to conserve its Baroque decoration and structure.

Sited on Andriyivska Hill in central Kyiv, the church stands above the Andriyivskyy Descent and the Podil district, within walking distance of Kyiv’s historic center and several cultural attractions.

• Buy a combined ticket if available with nearby museums on the Descent; otherwise pay the small entry fee - concerts are held inside, so check the schedule.
• Watch the wear on the stone steps and the varnish on the balustrades - the scuffs tell the social history of the place better than any plaque.
• Avoid peak afternoon tour groups by visiting early; the interior feels far less staged before midday.
