Sacramento Mountains (New Mexico)

The Sacramento Mountains are a compact mountain range in south-central New Mexico, United States, rising to elevations of about 12,000 feet. The range forms a wooded upland east of the Tularosa Basin.

Visitors use the range for hiking, camping, fishing, and winter sports; developed sites include trail networks, campgrounds and the Ski Apache resort on the higher slopes. Forest roads and scenic drives provide access to high-elevation viewpoints and alpine meadows.

Human use of the Sacramento Mountains includes logging, grazing, and 20th-century development for recreation and tourism. Federal forest management established protected areas and recreation infrastructure within the Lincoln National Forest.

The range lies east of the Tularosa Basin, immediately east of the city of Alamogordo and south of Ruidoso, in southern New Mexico. It forms a clear highland edge to the surrounding lowlands and desert basins.
