Rundāle Palace is an 18th-century Baroque palace in southern Latvia near Bauska, designed by Bartolomeo Rastrelli as a ducal residence for the Dukes of Courland. It is noted for its ornate state rooms, formal French-style gardens and period restoration works.
The complex includes richly decorated ceremonial rooms and private apartments, along with restored gardens laid out in axial parterres. The palace today houses museum displays and hosts cultural events while offering guided tours that present its architecture and decorative schemes.
Commissioned in the 18th century by the Duchy of Courland, the palace served as a representative residence and underwent phases of construction and interior decoration typical of grand European courts of the period. How to Get to Rundāle Palace #
Rundāle Palace is in southern Latvia near Rundāle village. By car it’s about 80-90 km south of Riga (roughly 1-1.5 hours) via the A7/E67 towards Bauska, then by local roads to the palace; there is onsite parking. Regional buses and occasional tourist services run from Riga, Bauska and Jelgava and local taxis connect Bauska to the palace (the final leg from Bauska is a short drive).
