About Rudas Thermal Bath and Swimming Pool
Rudas fürdő is a thermal bath complex founded in 1571 to 1572 during Ottoman rule, and it still preserves hallmark hammam features, including an Ottoman dome over an octagonal central pool. Its long history and distinctive interior make it feel different from many of Budapest’s later 19th-century bathhouses.
The bath uses thermal water described as slightly radioactive and mineral-rich, with components including sulfate, calcium, magnesium, bicarbonate and notable fluoride. A local brochure promotes it for various musculoskeletal complaints, but most travellers come for relaxation and the historic setting.
It sits at Döbrentei tér on the Buda side of the Erzsébet Bridge, making it easy to combine with riverside walks or nearby sightseeing on Gellért Hill and in central Buda.
