How to Get to Rēzekne

Rēzekne is in eastern Latvia and is most practically reached by a long-distance train or bus from Riga. Riga International Airport (RIX) is the main entry point; expect a multi-hour journey across the country to reach Rēzekne.

By Air

Riga International Airport (RIX): The main international airport for reaching Rēzekne. From RIX travel to Riga Central Station by bus or taxi (~€2-25, 25-30 minutes) and then take a long-distance train or bus eastwards to Rēzekne (see card 2). A taxi from RIX directly to Rēzekne would be very costly and is not recommended.

Alternative airports: For some regional itineraries you might travel overland from Vilnius or Kaunas, but Riga is the most straightforward air gateway from Western Europe for Rēzekne-bound travellers.

By Train & Bus

Train: Long-distance trains from Riga to Rēzekne are operated by Latvijas dzelzceļš / Pasažieru vilciens and take approximately 3.5-4.5 hours depending on the service; fares commonly range €6-12. Trains are a comfortable way to cover the long distance across Latvia.

Bus: Several long-distance bus operators run Riga-Rēzekne routes; travel time is similar to the train (about 4-5 hours) and fares vary but are often comparable. Buses can be a good alternative when train times are limited.
