How to Get to Rab
Rab island is reached by a short ferry from mainland ports; most travellers fly into Rijeka, Zadar or Split and continue overland to a ferry terminal. Plan around seasonal ferry timetables-summer offers the most frequent connections.
Rijeka Airport (RJK): Rijeka is the nearest airport on the northern Adriatic (on Krk island). From Rijeka Airport you can rent a car or take a taxi and drive to the mainland ferry port (Stinica/Jablanac) then ferry to Rab-total travel time to Rab town typically 1-1.5 hours including short ferry crossings; taxi or transfer to the port plus ferry fare apply (ferry fares vary by season and vehicle).
Zadar Airport (ZAD) / Split Airport (SPU): Zadar and Split are alternative international options, with longer overland journeys to the ferry ports. From Zadar the drive plus ferry runs around 1.5-3 hours depending on connections; from Split expect 2.5-4 hours. Seasonal flight and ferry timetables matter for planning.
Train: There is no direct rail service to Rab island. The nearest mainline stations are Rijeka and Senj; from these points travellers continue by road to the mainland ferry ports (Stinica/Jablanac) to catch the short ferry to Rab (Mišnjak). Trains can get you to Rijeka, then onward bus/taxi to the ferry.
Bus: Croatia’s bus network connects Rijeka, Zadar and other coastal towns with the ferry ports. Seasonal direct bus services (and local buses) operate to the ferry terminals; bus + ferry combinations are common-expect total travel times from Rijeka around 60-90 minutes and from Zadar/Split longer. Check Jadrolinija and local bus timetables in summer for direct connections.
How to Get Around Rab #
Rab town and its old town are pleasantly walkable; the harbour, beaches and historic streets are best reached on foot. In summer you’ll also find bike and scooter rentals for short trips. Ferries (Jadrolinija and other operators) connect Rab island with the mainland; local buses and taxis serve the island but services are more frequent in high season.
