Perched on the Shiraz road in Fars province, the Qur’an Gate (Darvazeh Quran) historically sheltered Qur’ans for travelers. Visitors stop for views over Shiraz and to photograph the restored arch.
The Qur’an Gate is a historic gateway located on an approach to the city of Shiraz in Fars province, Iran, traditionally associated with placing Qur’ans in or above the gate for the protection of travelers. It functions as both a cultural landmark and a roadside monument.
The site is commonly visited for its cultural associations and as a viewpoint offering panoramas over parts of Shiraz. The gate structure visible today is the result of repairs and rebuildings carried out over many generations.
A gate at this location has long-standing local significance and the tradition of housing Qur’ans there is part of the site’s identity. The structure has been maintained and restored at different times.
The Qur’an Gate stands on the northern approach to Shiraz, on the road that leads into the city from the surrounding Fars plain.

How to Get to Qur'an Gate #
Located on the road into Shiraz from the north, near the Chamran Highway. It is about 5-10 minutes by taxi from central Shiraz; local buses and shared taxis serve the route into the city.

- Visit at sunrise or late afternoon for softer light and fewer pilgrims at the gate.
- Respect the small mosque and prayer areas near the gate; modest dress is appreciated.
- The nearby bazaar is a good place to buy a shaded scarf to protect against sun and dust on walks.
