Pyramid of Seila Archaeological Site

The Pyramid of Seila is a small step pyramid located near the village of Seila in the Faiyum Governorate of Egypt. It is one of a group of provincial step pyramids generally dated to the late 3rd Dynasty of the Old Kingdom.

The monument is a compact, step-style pyramid set on a low desert plateau and is typically visited for its archaeological interest rather than for interior access. It stands isolated from the great royal pyramids of the Nile valley and is approached from the surrounding desert roads.

Scholars commonly attribute the small step pyramids to rulers of the late 3rd Dynasty, with debate over whether Huni or Sneferu sponsored some examples; their exact function remains uncertain. The Pyramid of Seila, like the other provincial step pyramids, dates to the early Old Kingdom period and has been the subject of archaeological study.

The pyramid sits on a desert rise in Faiyum Governorate, west of the Nile valley and near the village of Seila, within the broader Faiyum archaeological landscape.
