Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB): Colombo’s international airport is the main arrival point for visitors to Puttalam. From Colombo you can travel by train or bus to Puttalam; travel time by road is typically a few hours depending on traffic.
Mattala/Colombo Airport (HRI): Mattala has limited services and is farther south; it is generally not the practical choice for reaching Puttalam compared with Colombo (CMB).
Train: Puttalam is served by the Puttalam Line of Sri Lanka Railways, with trains running to Colombo Fort via Ragama and Chilaw. Journey times vary with service type; ticket classes and comfort levels differ.
