The Precinct of Mut is a temple precinct within the Karnak temple complex at Luxor, Egypt, dedicated to the goddess Mut and containing remains from the New Kingdom and later periods.
Visitors encounter ruined pylons, foundations of chapels, scattered statues and the remains of a ceremonial lake, reflecting the precinct’s role as a cult centre for Mut.
The precinct was developed and altered across pharaonic periods with construction activity recorded in the New Kingdom and into the later dynasties.
It lies on the east bank of the Nile within the Karnak archaeological area of Luxor, immediately adjacent to other major temple precincts in the city.

How to Get to Precinct of Mut #
From central Luxor (Karnak/Temple of Luxor area), cross the Nile to the East Bank by public ferry or bridge and take a short taxi ride toward the Karnak area; the Precinct of Mut lies within the eastern temple zones, north of the Luxor National Museum area. Most visitors combine it with other Karnak/Luxor East Bank sites.
Tips for Visiting Precinct of Mut #
- If coming from Luxor, cross to the East Bank at one of the public ferries and hire a local guide who knows the fragmented layout - signage on site is minimal.
- Bring sun protection; shade is scarce inside the precinct ruins.
- Visit late afternoon when shadows pick out column drums and the nearby crocodile mummies in Luxor Museum (if including the museum in the day).
