How to Get to Polygyros#
Polygyros is the administrative center of Chalkidiki and is best reached from Thessaloniki by bus or car. There is no direct rail service, so KTEL buses and private cars/taxis are the main onward options from Thessaloniki Airport or city.
Thessaloniki Macedonia Airport (SKG): Thessaloniki is the main international gateway for Polygyros. From SKG you can hire a car or take a bus toward Chalkidiki; the drive to Polygyros is about 55-75 minutes (65-80 km), depending on traffic. Airport car hire and taxis are available.
Alternative airports: Smaller Greek airports aren’t closer; if arriving via Athens Airport (ATH) expect a long ground transfer (4+ hours) by car or mixed train/bus services to Chalkidiki region.
Train: There is no direct national rail service to Polygyros; the nearest main railhub is Thessaloniki. From Thessaloniki, onward travel is by regional bus or car.
Bus: KTEL Chalkidiki operates buses from Thessaloniki to Polygyros and to towns across Chalkidiki. Journey time from Thessaloniki is roughly 60-90 minutes depending on route; tickets are modestly priced and sold at the KTEL station or on the bus.
