How to Get to Point Pedro#
Point Pedro is at the northern tip of Sri Lanka’s Jaffna peninsula and is most easily reached via Jaffna (JAF) or by rail/bus to Jaffna followed by a short road transfer. Local buses and taxis provide frequent last-mile connections.
Jaffna International Airport (JAF): Jaffna (Palaly) airport serves northern Sri Lanka and is the closest airport to Point Pedro. From JAF you can reach Point Pedro by taxi or local bus in about 30-45 minutes; taxi fares typically range from LKR 1,500-3,000.
Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB): Colombo’s main airport is the international gateway for Sri Lanka; from Colombo you can travel north by train or bus to Jaffna and then continue to Point Pedro by local road services (this is an overnight or long-day journey).
Train: The Sri Lankan Northern Line runs to Jaffna Railway Station with services from Colombo and Vavuniya; from Jaffna you can take a bus or taxi to Point Pedro (about 45-90 minutes).
Bus: Regular buses run along the Jaffna peninsula linking Jaffna and Point Pedro; fares are low (dozens of LKR) and buses are a direct, affordable option for the final leg.

Point Pedro is best reached via Jaffna by rail, bus or flight, then a short road transfer. Buses and taxis from Jaffna provide practical, low-cost connections for the peninsula’s final leg.
- Train to Jaffna + bus/taxi (LKR 200-1,500) - Take the Northern Line train to Jaffna Railway Station from Colombo or Vavuniya, then transfer by bus or taxi to Point Pedro. Trains are comfortable and scenic; the road leg from Jaffna to Point Pedro takes under two hours.
- Domestic flight to Jaffna (JAF) (LKR 5,000+) - Flights to Jaffna reduce travel time from the south; from the airport it’s a short onward trip to Point Pedro by taxi or bus. Check schedules as services can be limited.
