Pico de las Nieves
Mountain Gran Canaria's highest peak with panoramic views
Pico de las Nieves, Gran Canaria’s highest summit, has a broad summit plateau, radar installations and marked trails; visitors hike or drive for island panoramas and night skies.
Pico de las Nieves is the highest peak on the island of Gran Canaria in the Canary Islands, reaching approximately 1,949 meters above sea level. It is a principal high point on the island and a frequent destination for viewpoints and short mountain walks.
The summit provides wide panoramic views across Gran Canaria to notable landmarks such as Roque Nublo and, on clear days, views toward neighboring islands including Tenerife. Visitors use the road-accessible summit for sunrise or sunset photography and for short walks into surrounding pine forest.
The area also serves as a local hub for outdoor routes into the island’s central highlands and for access to nearby villages such as Tejeda. Facilities near the summit are limited but the marked viewpoints and paths make it easy to experience high-elevation scenery without technical climbing.
The peak has long been used as a viewpoint and local landmark; modern access was improved with roads and viewpoint facilities to support tourism and transport across the islands interior. It has not been the site of major historical construction beyond path and viewpoint development.
