A steep ravine on the eastern side of Gran Canaria in the Canary Islands, Spain, known for its dramatic cliffs, cave dwellings, and archaeological remains.

The ravine was inhabited in pre-Hispanic times by the native Guanche population; many caves were used as dwellings and burial sites and later repurposed for modern uses.

Located in the interior east of Gran Canaria, between the municipalities of Agüimes and Ingenio, running inland from the island’s eastern coast.

• Visit mid-morning or late afternoon to avoid the tour groups that come straight from beach resorts.
• Bring a torch for the dimmer cave interiors; some carved homes are only lightly lit.
• Try the cave restaurant: the setting is atmospheric and the local goat-cheese dishes are worth sampling.
