Piazza della Repubblica in Rome is a semicircular square located on the site of the ancient Baths of Diocletian and is known for its large central fountain group and surrounding late 19th- and early 20th-century buildings. The square functions as a major traffic node and pedestrian space close to Roma Termini station.

The central fountain, the Fontana delle Naiadi, and the surrounding arcaded buildings create the characteristic curved enclosure of the piazza. On the northern side stands the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Martiri, which incorporates part of the Baths of Diocletian and was adapted in the 16th century.

The piazza occupies a prominent position on the northeastern edge of Rome’s historic centre and is a common arrival point for visitors using the main rail station.

• Naiads fountain: The central fountain group, the Fountain of the Naiads, dates to the early 20th century and is a focal point for the semicircular plaza that sits above the ancient Baths of Diocletian.

Piazza della Repubblica is adjacent to the Repubblica-Teatro dell’Opera stop on Rome’s Metro Line A (Repubblica station). Roma Termini station (Metro Lines A and B and national rail) is also a short 5-10 minute walk east of the piazza, providing extensive bus, tram and rail connections.

Many city buses serve the area around Termini and the piazza; if arriving by train, exit Termini or Repubblica and walk a few minutes to the square.

• Use the nearby Termini/Repubblica transport hubs for the most direct access-Repubblica (Line A) brings you right to the piazza without long walks across busy streets.
• Combine a visit with the adjacent Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Martiri and the Baths of Diocletian (National Roman Museum) behind it; many visitors to the piazza miss these major historic attractions right next door.
• Visit early morning for the best light on the Fountain of the Naiads and to avoid the heavy foot traffic from Termini station during peak travel hours.
