Phu Kradueng National Park
Park Highland national park famed for sandstone plateau and hikes
High-elevation park in northeastern Thailand featuring a sandstone plateau, pine and evergreen forests, waterfalls and marked trails; popular for multi-day hikes, sunrise viewpoints and camping.
Phu Kradueng National Park is a protected area in northeastern Thailand known for its sandstone plateau, steep escarpments, and high-elevation plateau environment. The park is a popular destination for multi-day treks that ascend to a relatively flat summit area dotted with viewpoints, cliffs, waterfalls, pine and mixed forest.
Hiking routes lead from the park entrance up steep forested slopes to the mesa-like top where trails, campsites, and viewpoints provide access to waterfalls, seasonal wildflowers, and sunrise vistas. Typical overnight treks follow established paths and use basic camping or ranger-managed accommodation on the plateau.
The park was designated to protect the distinctive upland ecosystem and its water catchments and has been managed by Thailand’s protected-areas authorities with access regulated seasonally. Over the years trail infrastructure and visitor services have been developed to support trekking while limiting environmental impact.
Located in the Phu Kradueng massif within Loei Province in northeastern Thailand, the park’s summit plateau rises above the surrounding lowlands and is reached by a well-used trail starting from the park entrance.
- Best time to visit: Best visited in the cool, dry season-roughly November to February-when trails and viewpoints are most accessible.
- Seasonal closure: Park authorities typically close the site during the heavy monsoon months each year to protect trails and reduce risk; check local park notices before planning a trip.
