How to Get to Phang Nga#

Phang Nga is best reached via the regional airports at Phuket (HKT) and Krabi (KBV); both offer regular road connections into Phang Nga town by shared minivan or private transfer. There is no direct rail service to the town, so most arrivals continue by bus, minivan or taxi.

By Air

Phuket International Airport (HKT): Phuket is the closest major international airport for Phang Nga. Shared airport minivans direct to Phang Nga town are commonly sold from the arrivals area; expect roughly 200-350 THB and about 1-1.5 hours depending on traffic. Taxis and private transfers are available from the official rank (roughly 800-1,200 THB, ~1-1.5 hours).

Krabi International Airport (KBV): Krabi is another practical arrival point, especially for southwestern access. Shared minivans and private transfers run from the terminal toward Phang Nga - typical minivan fares are in the 250-400 THB range with journey times around 1.5-2 hours; private cars/taxis are more expensive and faster if you need direct door-to-door service.

By Train & Bus

Train: There is no rail line serving Phang Nga town; the nearest major railway is Surat Thani Railway Station (for long-distance southbound services). From Surat Thani you must change to a bus or minivan for the onward road journey to Phang Nga (several hours by road).

Bus: Phang Nga has a local bus/minivan terminal with frequent shared vans and intercity buses from Phuket, Krabi and Surat Thani. Minivans from Phuket or Krabi typically take 1-2 hours and cost in the low hundreds of THB; full-size intercity buses are a slower, cheaper option for longer connections.

How to Get Around Phang Nga#

Phang Nga is a road‑based destination: shared minivans and private cars cover most routes and are the most practical way to reach dispersed sights. If you want independence, hire a car or book private transfers; otherwise shared minivans are cheap and frequent.

  • Car rental / Private transfer (800-1,500 THB/day) - Renting a car or booking a private transfer is the most flexible way to get around Phang Nga province, especially if you plan to visit inland parks or scattered beaches. Most major rental companies operate at Phuket and Krabi airports; allow fuel and tolls in your budget. Driving times are short between attractions but roads can be narrow in places.
  • Shared minivan (airport & intercity) (150-400 THB) - Shared minivans are the common low-cost way to travel between Phuket/Krabi and Phang Nga town and to the main tourist spots. They depart from airport transfer desks and town minivan stations; bookable on arrival or in advance. Expect basic comfort and a direct route with stops to drop passengers off.
  • Local songthaews & tuk‑tuks (20-150 THB) - Inside towns and to nearby beaches you’ll find songthaews (shared pickup trucks) and occasional tuk‑tuks that handle short hops. Fares are very cheap (tens of THB) but agree a price before you travel or ask locals for typical fares. They’re useful for short local journeys where buses don’t run.
  • Ferry / island boat tours (300-1,500 THB (varies by route)) - If you’re heading to nearby islands (Phang Nga Bay, Koh Yao), services depart from nearby piers and tour operators. Prices vary by operator and destination; day tours with transfers are the most convenient if you don’t have a car. Check schedules in advance-some services run seasonally.
  • Taxi (700-1,500 THB) - Taxis and private transfers offer door‑to‑door convenience, useful for early/late flights or if you have luggage. Fixed‑rate airport transfers can be arranged through hotels or the airport taxi ranks; meter use is less common for longer intercity trips. Expect significantly higher fares than shared minivans.
  • Walking - Phang Nga town and small villages are compact and easy to explore on foot for short errands, cafes and the market. Comfortable shoes are useful on uneven pavements and in wet weather.
