The drive from Tirana to Peshkopi is roughly 2.5-3.5 hours depending on route and traffic. Taxis and private transfers are available from Tirana and can be more comfortable for the mountainous roads, while rental cars offer flexibility for stops en route.
Bus / Minibus (Mikrolet / Furgons): Intercity buses and minibuses run between Tirana (and other Albanian towns) and Peshkopi; travel time from Tirana is commonly around 3 hours and fares are typically modest (often in the range of €7-15 depending on operator). How to Get Around Peshkopi#
Peshkopi is an overland destination reached from Tirana by bus, minibus or private car. Within town, local taxis and walking cover most needs; a rental car is useful for mountain excursions but roads can be challenging.
- Intercity bus / minibus (€7-15) - Shared minibuses and coach services run between Tirana and Peshkopi several times daily; travel times are roughly 3-3.5 hours depending on stops and road conditions. Fares are low compared with Western Europe, but schedules and comfort levels vary - expect a basic but functional service.
- Private transfer / taxi (€60-120) - Private cars or taxis from Tirana are more comfortable and faster, particularly if you’re carrying luggage or travelling in a small group. Expect higher cost than bus fares, but door-to-door convenience and flexible timing can justify it for many travellers.
- Car rental (€30+/day) - Renting a car gives maximum flexibility to explore north-eastern Albania; roads in the region can be narrow and mountainous, so choose a reliable vehicle. Ensure you have up-to-date maps and check road conditions in winter months.
- Local taxis / shared taxis (€1-10 (local)) - Local taxis and shared-taxi services (furgons) handle most intra-town trips and nearby villages. Fares are typically low; negotiate or confirm the price in advance for intercity rides.
- Bicycle / Motorcycle (€5-25/day) - For short errands or exploring nearby countryside, bicycles and motorcycles are commonly used; terrain is hilly so a motorbike or e-bike is often more practical. Rentals are limited, so plan ahead.
- Walking - Peshkopi’s centre is compact and walkable for short trips to markets, cafes and municipal buildings. Walking is the simplest way to get around central Peshkopi.
