Northern Coast (Tumbes & Piura)
June usually brings cloudless mornings and strong sun by midday in coastal Piura and Tumbes; nights are balmy and mosquito levels fall slightly with the drier weather. This is one of the best months to combine surfing with inland tours because access roads are reliable. Expect fewer international tourists than on the southern coast; boutique beachfront lodges are comfortable but still book ahead for weekends.
Central Coast & Lima (Lima, Paracas, Ica)
June is squarely in Lima’s cool, gray season with frequent overcast skies and little rain; visibility can be poor early in the day. Beaches are quiet, making this an off-peak time to explore the city’s museums and restaurants without crowds. For archaeologial sites near Ica, mornings are brisk and breezy - comfortable for desert walks but chilly at dusk.
Southern Coast & Nazca Plateau (Nasca, Arequipa lowlands)
June features chilly dawns and clear skies that render the volcanoes around Arequipa spectacular at sunrise; daytime is sunny but not hot, and thermal layering is necessary. Colca Canyon’s condor-watching is prime as thermals form mid-morning, and nights can dip close to freezing at higher viewpoints. This month sees increased domestic travel around national holidays - reserve transport early.
Northern & Central Highlands (Huaraz, Cajamarca, Ancash)
June brings clear, sunlit days and chilly nights across the highlands; early starts for summits and long treks are standard practice to avoid afternoon winds and the minimal chance of unexpected showers. Snowline recedes, making passes more passable; however, you’ll still need warm sleeping layers and a good sleeping pad. This is a prime month for Cordillera Blanca climbs and day-hikes to glacial lakes.
Cusco & Southern Highlands (Cusco, Sacred Valley, Puno, Colca)
June ushers in the dry, high-season weather: clear skies, cold pre-dawn temperatures and excellent daytime visibility of mountains and ruins. Inti Raymi (June 24) brings large crowds and colorful celebrations in Cusco - book weeks in advance if you want to attend. Pack warm layers for chilly nights and strong sun protection for midday hikes.
Amazon Basin (Loreto, Madre de Dios & Manu)
June is firmly in the drier season for many Amazon sectors - days are hot and humid but rain is less frequent, and overland trails in Tambopata and Manu are much more walkable. River cruises are reliable and boat access to oxbow lakes like Lago Sandoval improves for wildlife viewing. Pack lightweight quick-dry clothing, a brimmed hat, and good jungle boots for muddy riverside banks that remain soft from the wet season.
