Northern Coast (Tumbes & Piura)
August continues the pleasantly dry spell and is often the clearest month for seeing distant offshore islands from the mainland. Surf remains good and the humidity, while present, is noticeably lower than in the wet months; evenings are slightly fresher near the shore. This is a good window for longer road trips north toward the Ecuador border.
Central Coast & Lima (Lima, Paracas, Ica)
August keeps the overcast pattern, but late afternoons occasionally clear to reveal crisp sunsets over the ocean. Ica’s vineyards are active in their cooler cycle and dune experiences are crisp and manageable. Travelers who dislike humidity will find Lima’s cool season pleasant for walking, although dampness can seep into light layers so pack a water-resistant jacket.
Southern Coast & Nazca Plateau (Nasca, Arequipa lowlands)
August keeps the dry, crisp highland pattern; days are sunny and pleasantly warm, and evenings become cold at over 3,000 meters. This is ideal trekking weather in the Colca region and for clear, early flights over the Nazca lines. Accommodation in popular canyon towns can book up on weekends, so plan ahead if you want sunrise condor views.
Northern & Central Highlands (Huaraz, Cajamarca, Ancash)
August remains in the dry, stable window with excellent visibility of jagged peaks and glaciers; daytime temperatures can feel warm in the sun though the air is thin. This is the most reliable month for summit attempts and long-distance treks. Nights are cold and potential for frost exists above 3,500-4,000 meters, so layers and thermal base layers are necessary.
Cusco & Southern Highlands (Cusco, Sacred Valley, Puno, Colca)
August remains sunny and dry; mornings are freezing at altitude but afternoons are comfortable for hiking and sightseeing. This month offers some of the best photo light over Sacsayhuamán and the amphitheaters of Pisac. With continued tourist volume, small-town eateries and guesthouses can be booked out - reserve ahead for the most convenient locations.
Amazon Basin (Loreto, Madre de Dios & Manu)
August remains dry with hot, clear days ideal for prolonged jungle exploration and canopy-walks; rivers are stable and access to deeper reserves like Pacaya-Samiria is straightforward. This is the most comfortable and predictable period for non‑boat-based hikes and research-focused trips. Early mornings are prime for birding; carry early-rising gear and layered clothing for quickly rising humidity.
