How to Get to Pénjamo

Pénjamo is best reached by road from regional airports such as Del Bajío (BJX) or Guadalajara (GDL). There is no passenger rail service; intercity buses and colectivos are the normal way to arrive and move between towns.

By Air

Del Bajío International Airport (BJX): The main international gateway for central Guanajuato is in Silao/León (BJX). From BJX you can take the airport shuttle or a taxi into León (shuttle ~ MXN 50-100, 20-30 minutes) and then a regional bus or colectivo to Pénjamo; a León-Pénjamo bus is typically around MXN 80-200 and takes roughly 1-1.5 hours.

Guadalajara International Airport (GDL): Guadalajara (GDL) is a larger alternative for international flights. From GDL expect a longer overland transfer to Pénjamo (2-3+ hours by bus or private transfer); direct taxi transfers are possible but substantially more expensive (several thousand MXN).

By Train & Bus

Train: There is no intercity passenger rail service that serves Pénjamo.

Bus: Pénjamo has a local bus terminal (Central de Autobuses de Pénjamo) with regular services to León, Irapuato and Guadalajara. Multiple carriers run regional routes; travel time to León is around 60-90 minutes and fares are commonly in the MXN 80-200 range depending on company and service level. Taxis and shared vans (colectivos) provide shorter connections to nearby towns.
