Cape Glasgow district known for Celtic Park football stadium
East Glasgow district dominated by Celtic Park stadium; people travel here for football matches, stadium tours and the matchday atmosphere in nearby pubs and streets.
Parkhead is a district in the east end of Glasgow, Scotland, notable for its industrial heritage and as the location of the city’s major football ground, Celtic Park. The area expanded significantly during the 19th century with foundries and heavy industry.
The district’s best-known feature is Celtic Park, the football stadium opened in 1892 and the focal point for large crowds on matchdays. Nearby there are retail and leisure facilities clustered around the stadium and Parkhead Cross, making the area a mix of sporting and commercial activity.
Parkhead grew as an industrial and manufacturing area in the 19th century, with foundries and metalworking enterprises. Over the 20th century much heavy industry declined and parts of the district have been redeveloped for retail, community uses and sports facilities.
Parkhead sits about 2.5 km east of Glasgow city centre, within the city’s urban East End and centred on the junction known as Parkhead Cross.
