Palácio do Planalto is the official workplace of the President of Brazil, located in the capital, Brasília. The modernist building was designed by architect Oscar Niemeyer as part of the planned city and opened with the inauguration of Brasília in 1960.

The building contains presidential offices, reception rooms and ceremonial spaces used for official government business and state functions. It forms one side of the Praça dos Três Poderes, the civic plaza that groups the executive, legislative and judicial headquarters.

Palácio do Planalto was completed with Brasília’s inauguration and has been the centre of Brazil’s executive administration since 1960, adapting interiors and security arrangements over time to meet evolving governmental needs.

The palace sits in the Monumental Axis of Brasília on Praça dos Três Poderes, in the Federal District, a short distance from other government buildings and national monuments.
