Ortaköy is a historic neighbourhood on the European shore of the Bosphorus in Istanbul, situated within the Beşiktaş district. It is known for its waterfront setting, lively market, and views across the strait toward the Asian shore.

The area is dominated visually by the Büyük Mecidiye Mosque, a 19th-century waterside mosque with slender minarets and an ornate interior. The quay and adjacent square are lined with cafés, small shops and weekend markets that attract both locals and visitors.

Ortaköy sits directly beneath one of the Bosphorus suspension bridges and functions as a transport node with ferry connections; its combination of historic architecture and active waterfront makes it a popular short-stop destination in central Istanbul.

Ortaköy is accessible by bus from Taksim and Beşiktaş, and by car or taxi along the coastal highway. The nearest tram connections require a short taxi or bus ride; ferries connect other Bosphorus neighborhoods but not directly to Ortaköy.

• Arrive in the late afternoon to watch sunlight across the Bosphorus bridge and to find the café terraces less crowded than midday.
• Try kumpir (stuffed baked potato) from a waterfront vendor - a local Ortaköy ritual.
• If visiting the mosque, enter through the side courtyard to see courtyard details and avoid the busiest approach.
