Ohel Leah Synagogue is an early 20th-century Sephardic synagogue on Hong Kong Island, built for the local Jewish community and named in memory of Leah Sassoon. The building dates from 1901and remains an active place of worship.
The synagogue is valued for its historical role in Hong Kong’s Jewish community and for its preserved early-20th-century interior and fittings. Services and community events continue to be held there under the local congregation’s auspices.
Commissioned by members of the Sassoon family, the synagogue was constructed to serve the growing Jewish population on the island and has been maintained as a community landmark since its opening. It has been recorded in Hong Kong’s surveys of historic buildings.
The building stands in the Mid-Levels area of Hong Kong Island, within the administrative area commonly associated with Central and near other historic colonial-era buildings.
