The University Museum and Art Gallery (UMAG) is the art and archaeology museum of The University of Hong Kong, located on the university campus in the Central and Western District of Hong Kong Island. It was established in 1953 to house and display the university’s collections.

The museum’s displays focus on Asian and Chinese material culture alongside Western and contemporary art, with rotating temporary exhibitions and educational programming. Exhibits typically include ceramics, paintings, calligraphy, and other decorative arts reflecting the university’s research strengths and collections.

UMAG was created by The University of Hong Kong to bring together its holdings for study and public display; the institution’s scope and exhibition program have expanded since mid 20th century to include contemporary shows and outreach. It operates as part of the university’s cultural and academic mission.

The museum sits on the main campus of The University of Hong Kong in the Mid-Levels area of the Central and Western District, within walking distance of HKU MTR station and the university precinct.

  • Getting there: The nearest rapid transit stop is HKU MTR station, a short walk across the campus to the museum entrance.
