Oeniadae Archaeological Site

Oeniadae was an ancient Greek city and seaport in the region of Acarnania, located on the west bank of the Achelous River near the Ionian coast. It functioned as a fortified harbour settlement in the classical and Hellenistic periods.

Ruins include defensive walls and traces of urban remains that reflect its role as a regional stronghold and commercial node. The site’s remains are visited for their archaeological interest and for views of the river plain.

Historical sources note Oeniadae’s involvement in regional conflicts due to its strategic position controlling access to the inland waterways. Over time, changes in river courses and political control altered its importance and settlement pattern.
