Nuruosmaniye Mosque is an 18th century Ottoman mosque in Istanbul notable for its Ottoman Baroque style and prominent dome, completed in the mid-1700s. It occupies a central position on the edge of the historic peninsula near Eminönü.

The mosque is best known for its large central dome and richly decorated interior characteristic of late Ottoman architecture. The courtyard and the mosque’s dome create a compact but visually striking complex that is visible from the nearby market district.

Construction was commissioned by Grand Vizier Nuru Osman Pasha and took place in the mid-18th century, with completion during the 1748-1755 period. The building represents one of the Ottoman Empire’s moves toward Baroque-influenced mosque architecture.

The mosque sits on the southeastern edge of Istanbul’s historic peninsula, a short walk from the Golden Horn waterfront and the Grand Bazaar area. It is easily reached from the Eminönü tram stop and surrounding pedestrian streets.

Nuruosmaniye Mosque sits beside Divan Yolu near the Grand Bazaar in old Istanbul. The easiest public transit is the T1 tram (Kabataş-Bağcılar): get off at Beyazıt‑Kapalıçarşı or Laleli/Üniversite and walk 3-5 minutes along Divan Yolu to the mosque.

By taxi or car it’s a short drive from Sultanahmet/Eminönü (a kilometre or two depending on your exact start); streets in the area are narrow and pedestrianised, so expect a short walk from the nearest drop‑off point.

• Visit mid-morning on a weekday to avoid the surge of tourists coming from nearby markets and Beyazıt Square; the mosque is busiest around Friday prayers so plan around those times.
• Enter via the mosque courtyard rather than from the busy street side for a calmer approach and better photo opportunities of the baroque façade and domes.
• Take time to study the interior stonework and the adjacent medrese buildings - many people only glance at the main prayer hall and miss the courtyard details and historical inscriptions.
