Nim Li Punit is a Classic Maya ceremonial centre in southern Belize’s Toledo District, noted for an extensive group of carved stone stelae and pyramidal temple structures. The site occupies a low-lying river valley setting amid agricultural land.
The site’s principal attraction is its plaza with surrounding temple-pyramids and a notable concentration of carved stelae that bear Long Count dates and ruler portraits. Visitors can walk among the terraces and platforms and view the sculpted monuments in their original contexts. Paths link the major groups and provide access to viewpoints over the surrounding valley.
Nim Li Punit flourished during the Classic period of Maya civilization when monuments with hieroglyphic inscriptions were erected to record rulership and ritual events. Excavations and conservation work have focused on preserving the stelae and stabilising temple structures.
