How to Get to Neili
Neili (內壢) is a neighbourhood in Zhongli, Taoyuan - accessible by Taiwan Railways (Neili Station) and within reach of Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport. Most visitors arrive via Taoyuan or Taipei and then use TRA, local buses or taxis to reach Neili.
Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE): The main international gateway for Taoyuan and western Taiwan. From TPE you can take the Taoyuan Airport MRT to Taipei Main Station (express service) - fare around NT$160 and journey time about 35-40 minutes - then transfer to TRA services for Neili; expect an additional TRA ride of roughly 30-45 minutes (fare varies by train type). A direct taxi from TPE to Neili or central Zhongli typically takes 30-45 minutes and costs roughly NT$1,000-1,400 (metered; approximate).
Taipei Songshan Airport (TSA): Songshan handles domestic and some short international flights and is much closer to central Taipei. From Songshan you can take the Taipei Metro to Taipei Main Station (30-40 minutes including transfers, fare around NT$30-65 depending on route) and then board TRA trains to Neili (see Train card). A taxi from Songshan to Neili will be significantly longer and typically costs several hundred New Taiwan dollars; most travellers prefer MRT + TRA for reliability.
Train: Neili is served by Taiwan Railways Administration (TRA) on the Western Line at Neili Station (內壢車站). Regular local and faster (chu-kuai/fast) trains connect Neili with Taipei Main Station and Taoyuan; typical journey time from Taipei is roughly 30-50 minutes depending on service, with fares varying by distance and train type (common local fares are in the tens to low hundreds of NT$). For longer-distance high-speed travel, use THSR Taoyuan (Taoyuan HSR) and transfer to local buses/TRA or a taxi to reach Neili.
Bus: Taoyuan city buses and intercity carriers (e.g., Kuo-Kuang and other express bus operators) serve Zhongli/Neili from Taoyuan and Taipei. Local bus rides inside Taoyuan generally cost around NT$15-30; intercity buses from Taipei to Taoyuan/Zhongli typically cost NT$60-120 and take 40-70 minutes depending on traffic. Buses are a good budget option but can be slower at peak hours.
How to Get Around Neili
Neili is easiest reached by rail - use the TRA to Neili Station and transfer from Taipei or Taoyuan as needed. For most visitors, a combination of TRA + short taxi or local bus rides works best: trains for intercity legs, buses/YouBike for short local trips, and taxis when you have luggage or tight schedules.
- TRA (Taiwan Railways) - Neili Station (NT$30-150) - Neili Station (內壢) on the TRA Western Line is the most convenient rail stop for the neighbourhood. Regular local and faster services connect to Taipei Main Station and Taoyuan; journey times to Taipei are typically 30-50 minutes depending on the service. Trains are frequent during the day - use faster chu-kuai or limited-stop services if you want to save time and are comfortable paying a slightly higher fare.
- Taoyuan Metro / Airport MRT (NT$30-160) - The Taoyuan Airport MRT (part of Taoyuan Metro) links Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport with Taipei and Taoyuan stations and is reliable for airport transfers. The express Airport MRT to Taipei Main Station takes about 35-40 minutes (fare about NT$160 to Taipei). From MRT stations you can transfer to TRA or local buses/taxis to reach Neili.
- Bus (Taoyuan city & intercity) (NT$15-120) - Taoyuan's city buses cover Zhongli and Neili well; intercity buses run between Taipei, Taoyuan and other cities. Local fares are budget-friendly (commonly NT$15-30) while intercity buses cost more (roughly NT$60-120 depending on route). Buses are cheap but can be slow in rush hour - check schedules and the stop names in Chinese before boarding.
- Taxi & Ride-hailing (NT$150-1,400) - Taxis are widely available and useful for door-to-door trips, luggage or late-night travel. Short trips inside Zhongli are inexpensive, but airport transfers from Taoyuan Airport to Neili typically cost around NT$1,000-1,400 by meter; travel times vary with traffic (about 30-45 minutes). Ride-hailing apps (Uber) operate in the area and can be helpful when taxis are scarce.
- Bikes / YouBike (NT$5-NT$40) - YouBike and local bike rentals are available in Taoyuan and Zhongli for short journeys and last-mile trips. Docked YouBike stations are convenient for short hops around Neili and are cheaper than taxis; rental pricing is low (small fees for the first 30 minutes with incremental charges thereafter). Cycling is pleasant for short distances but watch traffic and park in designated areas.
- Walking - Neili is compact enough that walking works well for exploring the immediate neighbourhood, markets and small shops. Sidewalks are generally available but can be narrow in busy stretches; wear comfortable shoes and allow extra time when connecting to train/bus stations.
