Taipei Zoo is the largest zoological park in Taiwan, located in the Wenshan (Muzha) area of Taipei City and organized into themed enclosures and educational pavilions.

Highlights include a Giant Panda House when pandas are on loan, a Formosan Animal Area showcasing native Taiwanese species, and indoor rainforest and cold-climate pavilions.

The zoo dates to the early 20th century origins of Taipei’s zoological collections and the current Wenshan site became the main park in the late 20th century; it functions as a conservation and education institution.

Situated in Wenshan District, the zoo is reachable by Taipei Metro (Taipei Zoo Station) and links to the Maokong Gondola for nearby hilltop attractions.

What to See#

• Giant Panda House: A purpose-built pavilion that houses the zoo’s giant pandas when they are on loan; it is one of the zoo’s most visited exhibits.
• Formosan Animal Area: A section dedicated to Taiwan’s native fauna where species such as Formosan macaque and endemic birds are displayed in recreated habitats.

Take Taipei MRT Wenhu (Brown) Line to Taipei Zoo Station. The zoo is directly accessible from the station and is also served by local buses. From central Taipei, the MRT provides a straightforward ride with a single transfer depending on the starting line.

• Buy tickets online or early in the morning to avoid weekend school groups, especially on national holidays.
• Use the zoo's cable car for a different perspective and to reach some exhibits more quickly.
• If visiting in summer, head to the tropical house early - it's busiest by mid-afternoon when families arrive.
