National Theatre of Japan

The National Theatre of Japan is a state-supported performing-arts complex in Tokyo dedicated primarily to traditional Japanese theatre forms. It opened in the mid-20th century to provide regular venues and preservation for arts such as kabuki, bunraku (puppet theatre) and classical dance.

Auditoriums of different sizes host full-scale productions, smaller recitals and experimental presentations, while on-site exhibition and learning spaces present material on the theatre forms and the history of performance.
