The National Museum of Folk Architecture and Folkways of Ukraine is an open-air museum near Kyiv that preserves traditional Ukrainian rural architecture and folk heritage. The museum presents full-size houses, churches, mills and communal buildings relocated from across Ukraine and arranged in regional groups.

Visitors move along paths through parkland to view wooden churches, thatched cottages, windmills and other vernacular buildings that illustrate regional construction techniques and rural life. The museum also stages craft demonstrations, seasonal festivals and educational programmes centred on traditional crafts and customs.

The museum was created to conserve vernacular architecture and to provide a living reference for folkways and regional building types; it has expanded since its founding to include a wide geographic representation of Ukrainian traditions.

The site lies on the outskirts of Kyiv amid parkland and woodland, accessible from the city as a day-trip open-air cultural complex.

Pirogovo is south of central Kyiv. From the city center take the metro to the Teremky station and then a local bus or taxi for roughly 20-30 minutes; alternatively use a taxi directly from the city center (about 20-30 minutes depending on traffic). The open‑air grounds are large; expect a 10-25 minute walk between dispersed exhibits.

• Go early in the morning or late afternoon to avoid school groups who swarm the open‑air churchyards and peasant houses.
• Bring a folding map of the site - the museum is large and signposting can be sparse; plan at least three hours to see the highlights.
• Keep an ear out for village craftsmen demonstrating folk crafts (ceramics, weaving) - those living practices are the whole point.
