National Museum of Colombo is the largest museum in Sri Lanka and the principal museum for the nation’s archaeological and cultural collections. It was established in the late 19th century under the British colonial administration and remains the country’s main national museum.

Permanent displays cover archaeology, ethnology, numismatics and regalia from Sri Lanka’s monarchic and colonial periods, presented across several large galleries. Exhibits include archaeological finds, traditional crafts and historical objects important to Sri Lankan cultural history.

The museum was created during British colonial rule and expanded over the 20th century to house growing national collections and public exhibits.

The museum is located in Colombo and serves as a central cultural institution for the capital region.
