Nai Harn
Beach Popular Phuket beach with clear waters and calm bay
Beach on southern Phuket known for white sand, swimming and snorkeling; beachfront seafood restaurants, local markets and nearby viewpoints draw day‑trippers and families.
Nai Harn is a sandy bay and beach on the southern tip of Phuket island in southern Thailand, known for its curved crescent of sand about 700 metres long. It is a well-known local and tourist beach with a mix of swimming, snorkeling and small-scale tourism facilities.
The beach features a broad shoreline with fine sand and relatively clear water at the bay’s centre; a reef and rock outcrops at the southern end provide snorkeling close to shore. Small shops, restaurants and resorts line the road behind the beach, and nearby hills give short viewpoints over the bay.
Traditionally a fishing bay used by local communities, the area has grown into a public beach with visitor facilities over recent decades while retaining local use. The shoreline and nearby marine features are managed informally by local authorities and businesses rather than as a formal protected area.
The beach sits on the southern end of Phuket island near Rawai and the small town areas that serve the island’s south. It is roughly a 20-kilometre drive from Phuket Town and is accessed by the island road network.
- Best season: Calm seas and clear water are most reliable between November and April, making this the best season for swimming and snorkeling.
- Nearby viewpoints: Promthep Cape and several hilltop viewpoints are within a short drive and provide panoramic views over the bay and nearby islands.
How to Get to Nai Harn #
Nai Harn Beach is on the southern end of Phuket Island. The simplest way to get there is by car, taxi or rented motorbike from Phuket Town or Phuket International Airport; allow roughly a 30-60 minute drive depending on traffic. Local shared minivans and songthaews run from nearby areas such as Rawai and Chalong; once at the Nai Harn parking/roadside area the beach is a short walk (a few minutes) down to the sand.
Tips for Visiting Nai Harn #
- Come early in the morning when the sea is usually calm and parking at the western end of the beach is easier; mornings also bring fewer beachgoers and better snorkeling off the nearby headlands.
- Head west along the beach toward the small rocky cove called Ao Sane for clearer water and snorkel spots that many people skip when they stay on Nai Harn's main sandy stretch.
- Avoid weekends and Phuket public holidays if you want a quieter visit-Nai Harn fills quickly with local families and coach groups on Saturdays and Sundays.
Best Time to Visit Nai Harn #
Go in the dry season (Nov-Apr) for the best beach weather and calmer sea conditions.
