How to Get to Nagymaros
Nagymaros on the Danube Bend is reached most easily from Budapest - by air via Budapest Ferenc Liszt Airport and then by MÁV regional train or by road from Vienna. The town is small and best accessed via Budapest's rail services to the northbound Szob line.
Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport (BUD): The airport is the main international gateway. To reach central Budapest take bus 100E (airport express) to Deák Ferenc tér - journey time ~35-45 minutes and the airport express single fare is about 900-1,200 HUF (buy tickets at machines or online). Alternatively take bus 200E to Kőbánya-Kispest and transfer to Metro M3 for central Budapest (cheaper if using a regular public-transport ticket).
Vienna International Airport (VIE): If flying into Vienna, you can take an intercity train or bus to Budapest (Railjet or ÖBB/ MÁV services) - the Vienna→Budapest rail journey is about 2.5-3 hours and fares typically start around €15-€35 if booked in advance. From Budapest railway stations take a regional MÁV train to Nagymaros (see trains below).
Train: Nagymaros is served by MÁV regional trains on the Budapest-Szob line; services run from Budapest Nyugati (and sometimes from Budapest Déli/Keleti with changes) to Nagymaros in roughly 50-70 minutes. Regional single fares are typically in the range of 800-1,500 HUF depending on the origin and ticket type.
Bus: Regional buses connect Nagymaros with nearby villages and with Visegrád; local bus timetables vary seasonally (more frequent in summer). Buses are useful for short hops where the train doesn’t stop - fares are low (a few hundred HUF) but check local schedules.
