Myeongdong Cathedral

Myeongdong Cathedral, formally the Cathedral Church of the Virgin Mary of the Immaculate Conception, is a Roman Catholic cathedral in the Myeong-dong district of central Seoul and serves as the seat of the Archbishop of Seoul. The church was completed in the late 19th century and is one of Korea’s best-known Catholic churches.

The cathedral is noted for its Gothic Revival design, stained glass windows and twin spires; it remains an active parish with regular services and religious events. The interior contains the main nave, chapels and a crypt that are accessible to visitors during opening hours.

The building was constructed in the 19th century as the Catholic community in Korea established permanent worship sites and has since remained a central religious and cultural landmark. It has played a role in both religious life and civic events in Seoul over the 20th and 21st centuries.

The cathedral is located in Myeong-dong, central Seoul, within walking distance of commercial streets and Myeongdong Station on Seoul’s metro network.
